Refugee ESL SUmmer Learning Academy

Each Summer, E’rootha partners with Lutheran Social Services of Michigan (Michigan’s largest private refugee resettlement organization) to hold a Summer Camp for newly-arrived Iraqi refugees. The program seeks to prepare refugee kids for American schools, while building lasting friendships and providing a warm welcome to their new country. Camp Leaders lead their groups in a variety of fun daily activities including but not limited to: performing skits, planting flowers, arts and crafts, physical sports, field trips, etc…

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

1. Fill out the volunteer application
2. Attend Mandatory Training (where you must bring a valid ID, submit to a criminal background check and drug screening)

3. Uniform is required (t-shirt will be provided with name tag)
4. Must take case notes for each child in your group
5. You might be asked to complete CPR certification, of which E’rootha will cover the expenses
6.
Ability to understand Arabic or Aramaic preferred but not required
